Easter Straker’s Birthday Chair. Easter Straker was a local broadcast personality in Lima, Ohio. During the 1960s and 1970s young children celebrating birthdays appeared on Easter’s television show where they sang songs and recited rhymes. Each child celebrating a birthday was permitted to reach into the “penny jar” and take as many pennies as their little hand could hold.
The birthday chair was designed by Grover Blazer, the show’s director. To preserve the fond memories of many people in Allen County and Northwest Ohio, the chair was donated to the Allen County Historical Society ion 1982 by WLIO-TV 35, Lima.
