Mount Vernon. Mr. George S. Pond of Warren, Ohio created this lovely model of George Washington’s home.  Beginning in 1935, Mr. Pond spent two and a half years constructing the replica and used thousands of individual pieces of wood – cut and fitted with exacting patience.  Former Historical Society President, Jim MacDonell, purchased the model from Pond’s daughter, Mrs. Raymond Hughes.  Mrs. Hughes traveled all over the world to assemble the miniature furnishings that fill the small mansion.    Even the copper spouting, which carried rain from the roof of the house and loggias, has been tested and is watertight.  The entire replica covers a ten by fifteen-foot area.  The mansion alone is seven foot wide and stands almost five feet tall.
