EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES

The Allen County Museum provides a range of detailed lesson plans specifically designed for teachers to use with their students. These resources are tailored for in-person and virtual classrooms, offering engaging activities and worksheets supporting a rich learning experience. Visit our page to download and print out these lesson plans, which will help you bring history to life for your students.

For parents and Pre-K teachers, there are printouts on both the Allen County Museum’s General Store and some Dinosaur activities connected to our yearly National Fossil Day.

OIL PASTEL LESSON PLAN

Students will read a short article, The Rise of Female Pastel Artists: From Rosalba Carriera to Mary Cassatt by Furio Rinaldi, and the Introduction Panel of The Art of Domesticity exhibition. With these two writings in mind, students will look at the art in The Art of Domesticity and discuss gender and art media. Finally, students will choose an artwork to do a close-up study of using oil pastels.

ART CRITICISM & GENDER LESSON PLAN

Students will first review the four steps of art criticism: describe, analyze, interpret, and judge. Likewise, they will understand that art criticism has traditionally been misogynistic and will keep that in mind with their art criticism in the future.
